Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is defined as a chronic inflammation of the GI tract. In an individual diagnosed with IBD, the body is triggered to produce an exaggerated, inappropriate immune response that results in GI tract inflammation.
IBD is therefore considered to be an autoimmune disease. The resulting prolonged inflammation can cause tissue destruction and damage to the GI tract. IBD is characterized by periods of remission and periods of exacerbation.
IBD Connect’s Running in Place Virtual 5K is our biggest annual fundraiser. This is an exciting, family-friendly event that brings communities together in support of pediatric IBD patients and their families.
Find Out More!As a reminder, all in-person gutsy groups and virtual villages will be on pause during July and August. This summer break gives our team time to plan new programs, initiatives, and events for the upcoming year, while also making space for summer vacations and family time! We encourage you to use this time to connect with fellow IBD Warriors outside of our regular meetings and continue supporting one another in meaningful ways. We will still hold our regularly-scheduled June meetings and we look forward to reconnecting with everyone again in the fall, refreshed and ready for an exciting new season!
